Hello! We are thrilled that you’ve found this little website and our church. At the time of this writing, Lori and I are completing our first month helping lead the Vandalia Church of God. From the pulpit, I’ve had the privilege of teaching from God’s Word over the last two months and sharing Scripture that has spoken to me over a lifetime. We’ve shared sermons as a congregation on the early church in Acts, Nehemiah’s leading the work in rebuilding Jerusalem, and Elijah’s encounter on Mt. Carmel with the 450 prophets of Ba’al. I’ve been eager to share messages about God’s power to work through ordinary men and women to do the extraordinary. There was a thread running through all of these messages tying together the way God calls His people to honor His name through courage and steadfastness in the face of opposition.
Nehemiah 2:17-20 was our Scripture text the Sunday before I wrote this little post and I was very enthusiastic as I learned along with our church family how God’s hand was on the group Nehemiah was rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem with. This is my foundational (pun intended) thought for the month. Verse 8 of Nehemiah 2 and then 18 speaks the truth Nehemiah knew and that should comfort us: “for the good hand of my God was upon me.” God’s hand is always upon those who work in his name, whether it’s our humble church as we find our way through a world that rejects the idea of church, or you as seek a church home where the truth of God’s Word is at the center of every activity.
We are thankful for all the seasoned saints who love on our church and whom we’re blessed to share the faith journey with. These include Pastor Emeritus and Sister Bufkin, Brother Bob, and Sister Renee Grady, Brother and Sister Buck, Sister Clara, and all the wonderful folks who support the ministry of Vandalia Church of God through prayer and giving in such a generous spirit. God’s hand is truly upon us for the work ahead and I’m excited for the coming months. -Pastor Andy
